The Tropical Biology (often a synonym for Tropical Ecology ) is a research field of organismic biology. She deals with organisms and their relationship to one another on various organizational, spatial and taxonomic scales in the tropics .

Scientists working in tropical biology in German-speaking countries are organized in the Society for Tropical Ecology gtö. There are also special organizations such as the Society for Tropical Ornithology , which are dedicated to aspects of tropical biology.

In addition to the natural research museums in Germany (Senckenberg, ZGF, Museum König, Natural History Museum Berlin, etc.), many biological institutes work in this field. The Leibniz Center for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) in Bremen is dedicated to marine tropical biology .

In 2009 the two leading scientific organizations of tropical ecology adopted the "Marburg Declaration" at the joint annual conference on July 30, 2009. In it, the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation (ATCB) and the Society for Tropical Ecology (GTÖ) call for global warming to be slowed down and the deforestation of tropical forests to be stopped.
