Tropical suitability

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under tropical climates means a sufficient load capacity under the special climatic conditions of the tropics and subtropics . The term is used for people but also for technical and industrial products. In tropical medicine , suitability for use in the tropics is determined in accordance with the guidelines of the employers' liability insurance association as part of a suitability test for tropical conditions. Various industrial standards apply to devices and technical products to determine their suitability for use in the tropics .

Medical suitability for the tropics

The special climate in tropical and subtropical climates is mostly characterized by high humidity (or extreme dryness in desert areas), heat and increased solar radiation. Most of the newcomers will tolerate this climate after a certain period of adaptation, but pre-existing diseases, particularly of the cardiovascular system, can endanger health. The ordinance on preventive occupational health care (ArbMedVV) provides for a compulsory examination (Appendix Part 4/1) of employees when "activities in the tropics, subtropics and other stays abroad with particular climatic stresses and risk of infection" are carried out. Doctors with the specialist designation “occupational medicine” or the additional designation “industrial medicine”, “tropical medicine” can be commissioned with these examinations. In addition to the health check for suitability for use in the tropics, this also includes aspects of the available medical care on site, the risk of infectious diseases and their prophylaxis.

Technical suitability for the tropics

The climatic conditions can lead to an inoperability of industrial products or accelerate corrosion and wear . For example, some machines are suitable for use in the tropics through improved impermeability to sand dust, special cooling devices or increased corrosion resistance to moisture. Depending on the product, various industrial standards apply to the testing and conditions of a particular load capacity, e.g. B. for cooling units EN ISO 15502, for textiles EN ISO 11721.
