Troy University Arboretum

The Troy University Arboretum , formerly known under the name "Troy State University Arboretum" is a 30-hectare, publicly accessible arboretum near the Troy campus of Troy University , the University of Troy , Alabama .

The Troy Arboretum

The arboretum is subordinate to the Department of biological & environmental sciences of the College of arts and sciences .

It has over 300 different tree species from the southeastern United States and southern Alabama, the Wiregrass region . There is also another 1.6 hectare part including a 4 km long nature trail with a stream and a pond, as well as the smaller "Pocosin Nature Preserve", a swamp nature reserve, 10 km east of Troy.

The college's teaching and research program is complemented by a herbarium .

The Troy Herbarium

The Troy University Herbarium , founded in 1954, is home to over 35,000 species, mostly vascular plants (Tracheophyta), as well as a collection of mosses and lichens from the southeastern United States and southern Alabama. The annual new addition is around 3,000 species and thus belongs to the smaller regional herbaria. All copies of the Troy Herbarium are recorded with images in a database.
