The Rembertów military training area is located on the eastern outskirts of Warsaw in the Rembertów district and was established as a Russian artillery firing range in 1888. After the regaining of Polish independence, the barracks and the military training area were used by the new Polish army.

On September 14, 1939, the military training area was captured by the German Wehrmacht . The Wehrmacht set up the training area as a training center for armored units. The training area was renamed the Rembertau military training area .

In 1944 the area was conquered by the Soviet Red Army . On the edge of the square, the Soviet NKVD set up a transit and interrogation camp for members of the Polish Home Army . Around 8,000 Polish political prisoners were imprisoned in Soviet special camp number 10, most of whom were to be deported to Siberia. On May 21, 1945, units of the Polish Home Army attacked the camp and liberated 446 inmates.

From 1944 to September 17, 1993, Soviet military units used parts of the site. Other parts of the area were used by the combat troop school ( Polish Centrum Wyszkolenia Piechoty ) of the Polish armed forces until 1954 . After that, the area was used by the Academy of the General Staff and, since 1990, the Academy for National Defense .
