Tryckfrihetsförordningen (Freedom of the Press Act) from 1949 is part of the Swedish constitution . The law circumscribes and guarantees the freedom of the press and the public administration.

Anders Chydenius already introduced the first law on freedom of the press, valid until 1949, in 1766, which stopped censorship and - as the first country in the world - introduced the principle of public access (Swedish: offentlighetsprincipen ) in the administration.
