Trygve Mikkjel Heyerdahl Reenskaug (born June 21, 1930 ) is a Norwegian researcher in computer science . He coined the term Model View Controller for software design in 1979 while working at Xerox Parc in Palo Alto .

His first major software project Autokon, a CADCAM program, was first put into operation in 1963 and remained in use in shipyards around the world for more than 30 years.

He is involved in the research of object-oriented methods and developed object-oriented role modeling methods and software tools as early as 1983. In 1986 he founded the IT company Taskon to develop another software tool for object-oriented methods.

Reenskaug wrote the book Working With Objects: The OOram Software Engineering Method with P. Wold and OA Lehne.

He also worked on the development of the UML . He is an emeritus professor of computer science at the University of Oslo .
