The Tsukuba Cable Car ( Japanese 筑波 山 ロ ー プ ウ ェ イ , Tsukubasan Rōpuwēi ; English Mount Tsukuba Ropeway ) is a cable car in Japan . It is located in the area of the city of Tsukuba in the prefecture of Ibaraki and leads to Mount Tsukuba . It is operated by Tsukuba Kankō Tetsudō , a subsidiary of Keisei Dentetsu .

The valley station Tsutsujigaoka ( つ つ じ ヶ 丘 ) is located on the southeast flank of the mountain at an altitude of 542  TP . From there, the cable car takes you up to 840 m  TP in the immediate vicinity of Nyotai-san ( 女体山 ), one of the two peaks of Tsukuba. The system is an aerial tramway built by Nippon Cable with two supports as well as two suspension and traction ropes in both directions. Over a length of 1296 m, it overcomes a height difference of 298 m. The two cabins made by CWA in Switzerland offer space for 72 people each and move at a speed of 6 m / s.

As a rule, the cable car runs every 20 minutes every day from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with operating hours being extended during the summer holidays and on New Year's Day. The journey time is six minutes. The valley station can be reached via a bus line from Tsukuba train station . A 15-minute walk from the mountain station leads to the Tsukuba funicular .

The cable car was opened on August 11, 1965 by the Tsukubasan Rōpuwēi Kabushiki-gaisha . This merged on October 1, 1999 with the Tsukuba Tozan Tetsudō (operator of the neighboring funicular) to the Tsukuba Kankō Tetsudō . After a renovation phase, operations with the new CWA cabins began on March 12, 2004.
