The Tsuru University ( Jap. 都留文科大学 , Tsuru bunka daigaku , Eng. Tsuru University ) is an urban university in Japan . It is located in Tahara, Tsuru in Yamanashi Prefecture .
Until 2011, it was the only city university that offered the course for primary school teacher training. The university with around 3,000 students is of great economic importance for the small town with only 34,000 inhabitants. About 90 percent of the students are from outside of Yamanashi Prefecture.
history
The college was founded in 1953 as the Yamanashi Prefectural Temporary Teacher Training College ( 山 梨 県 立 臨時 教員 養成 所 ). In 1955, the Tsuru City Council created the two-year Tsuru University ( 都 留 短期 大学 , Tsuru tanki daigaku ) after her . It had departments for elementary school teacher training and economics.
In 1960 it developed into the Tsuru School of Humanities. In 1966 she moved to today's campus. In 1995 she founded the Graduate School (master’s courses).
