Tube burst
Under politzerization also Tubendurchblasung is meant the therapeutic attempt to open a sealed Eustachian tube of an overpressure in the nasopharyngeal space (Tube) by generating (tympanales ventilation problem). This previously sets a tube function test ahead, which is understood investigations with which the patency of the eustachian tube is checked. The aim of the treatment is an equalization of the pressure ratios between air pressure and inner ear pressure . A contraindication is z. B. infectious rhinitis .
Procedure
The simplest method of generating positive pressure is the Valsalva experiment (pressing with your nose closed and your mouth closed). In the Politzer experiment, air is pressed into the nose with a rubber balloon while the patient swallows. Since the palate is closed when swallowing, the air is pressed into the tube. This Politzer balloon can also be used to force air into a metal catheter inserted through the nose into the tube opening.
"Nose balloons" are used especially with children, the playful use of which allows independent treatment. In addition, the lowering of the counterpressure in the balloon after the initial expansion prevents excessive pressure. Firmer balloons can be used for adults or older children.
The Valsalva experiment is often used to equalize pressure e.g. B. used on flights or diving. ENT doctors use rupturing tubes to diagnose and, above all, treat tube catarrh or tympanic effusion and a tube ventilation disorder.
