The Tubenkatarrh is a catarrh of the eustachian tube ( eustachian tube , "the Eustachian tube"). It usually occurs as part of an infection of the upper airways (runny nose). Closing the auditory tuba impedes the equalization of pressure between the tympanic cavity and the surrounding air, which results in a permanent negative pressure in the tympanic cavity due to the continuous absorption of air in the middle ear. This causes a retraction of the eardrum , recognizable by a shifted light reflex, an optically shortened hammer handle with a protruding short extension and the formation of a rear hammer fold. A clear diagnosis can be made with tympanometry .

The tube blast ( Valsalva experiment , Politzer experiment , tube catheterisation) is mainly used as a therapeutic agent, but it also has diagnostic value.

If the tubular catarrh persists for a long time, there is a smooth transition to the tympanic effusion .
