Tulse Luper
Tulse Luper (full name: Tulse Henry Purcell Luper) is a character invented by Peter Greenaway who he uses in several of his works.
She appears in his early films Vertical Features Remake and A Walk Through H: The Reincarnation of an Ornithologist , as well as in the 1980 film The Falls . Luper also plays the main role in The Tulse Luper Suitcases , an ambitious multimedia project by Greenaway, which consists of three films, the two books Tulse Luper in Turin and Tulse Luper in Venice , 92 DVDs, several websites and CD-ROMs. This project, which was started in 2003, portrays Tulse Luper, a Welshman born in 1911, based on 92 suitcases and their contents assigned to him. Each suitcase contains an object that is supposed to "represent the world" in some way. The number 92 is an allusion to the ordinal number of the element uranium ; Greenaway has also used the number 92 as a structural element in earlier works. Tulse appears as an author, project maker and collaborator at Greenaway, which sometimes blurs the lines between reality and fiction. Another defining element of the work is the metaphor “prison”: it is described how Tulse got into prisons several times in his life.
What is striking about the three films is the unusual, experimental design, which gives the whole thing the impression of a visual encyclopedia. The project can be seen as a work of the independent film genre, it shows characteristics of postmodern art.
Online game
There is now an online game about Tulse Luper. Here you have to open various suitcases in three different places, behind each of which there is a game. The moment you register, you start at one of the three locations, which then also stands for the video sequences received for each completed game. One can get one of three possible sequences, but always only the same part. The other parts can be acquired by trading with other players in the community - swapping or buying. At the moment the game is not finished yet, not all 92 suitcases are available. New suitcases are always being added. The suitcases are also not reachable at every place, you have to travel to the other places to play missing suitcases.
