The Spering Tunnel is an approx. 3 km long, two-tube motorway tunnel on the Pyhrn motorway A9 in Upper Austria (Kirchdorf / Krems district). For cost reasons, it was initially only partially built and, after the completion of the second tube and the renovation of the first, has been accessible via two tubes since December 19, 2018.
The full expansion of the entire Klaus tunnel chain (consisting of four tunnels: Klauser Tunnel, Spering Tunnel , Traunfried Tunnel and Falkenstein Tunnel) began at the end of 2013 with the construction of bridges, the second tunnels were built between 2014 and 2017. From September 2017 to December 18, 2018, the existing tube towards the playing field was renovated. The traffic ran through the new tube in a single lane in oncoming traffic.
