The Engaña Tunnel is a nearly 7 km long railway tunnel through the Cantabrian Mountains in Spain . It was part of the never completed strategic railway line Santander - Valencia (also called Santander - Mediterráneo ).

The northern tunnel portal is at Vega de Pas in Cantabria , the south portal at Merindad de Valdeporres in the province of Burgos . Construction of the tunnel began in 1941, but had to be stopped in 1961 as a result of economic and financial problems. During construction, it was the longest tunnel that lay entirely on the territory of Spain (the Somport tunnel opened in 1915 across the border into France was longer).
