A Turbomeca Makila

The Turbomeca Makila is a shaft turbine from the French manufacturer Turboméca specially designed to drive helicopters with a weight of five to six tons.

history

The engine was developed for Eurocopter's twin-engine Dauphin and Panther helicopters. The first run took place in 1974, but it was first used for the Indian HAL - Dhruv helicopter. The certification of the 2B2 took place in December 2001 by the French aviation authority DGAC, that of the 2M2 in August 2007.

Technical specifications

The engine has two separate shafts. The gas generator consists of a three-stage compressor, the first two stages having an axial design and the third being designed as a radial compressor. The combustion chamber is designed as a rearward-facing annular combustion chamber and works with a single-stage turbine. The power turbine is also designed as a single-stage turbine. The output speed is 23,000 / min, which is reduced to 6000 / min by a reduction gear.
