Turid Rugaas

Turid Lillegull Rugaas (born 1938 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian international dog trainer and author of non-fiction books.

She has been working full-time with dogs for more than 30 years, including as a trainer. At the end of the 1980s she and her colleague Stale Ødegaard began to study communication between dogs. The results were reflected in books and audiovisual media on the subject of appeasement signals in dogs. On her initiative, the organization Pet Dog Trainers of Europe , of which she is president, was founded. The organization is committed to standards in the training of dogs and has established ethical principles for the work of dog trainers in a Code of Ethics .
