The Turpie Rock is a 1 m cliff rock off the north coast of South Georgia . It is in front of the entrance to Hercules Bay .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1958 after the freighter James Turpie of Southern Whaling & Sealing Co. Ltd., which sank near the whaling station Leith Harbor in 1946 .
