Tychius picirostris is a beetle from the family of the weevils (Curculionidae).

description

The beetles are 2 to 2.3 millimeters long. They have a slim trunk. The color varies between greenish brown and black.

distribution

The beetle species is widespread in Europe and is still found in subalpine regions. Tychius picirostris was introduced into North America around 1908 and is now also widespread there.

Way of life

The beetles can be found on different types of clover ( Trifolium ) in spring and summer . These form the main host and forage crops. The larvae develop in their flower heads. These eat the clover seeds and are therefore considered pests .
