The beetles are 2.8-3.8 mm long. They are covered with red gold and white scales. A white longitudinal band runs centrally over the pronotum. The label is white. On the wing covers there is a white seam tape, a white shoulder patch and in the 6th and 7th space behind another white patch.

distribution

The beetle species is widespread in Europe. Their occurrence extends in the north to southern Norway, central Sweden and southern Finland. The species is rare in southern England. In Central Europe, their occurrence decreases towards the north. Tychius quinquepunctatus was introduced into North Africa .

Way of life

From the end of March / beginning of April to find the bugs in Spring Pea ( Lathyrus vernus ) and various vetch ( Vicia ) and grass pea species ( Lathyrus ). These form the host and forage plants. The larvae eat the seeds and then leave the pods of the host plants. The larvae pupate in the soil. In the summer the new generation of beetles hatch and later overwinter. The beetles can cause damage to horticulture by eating, especially young shoots.
