The Tydźenska nowina - Serbske powěsće za hornich Łužičanow ( Weekly News - Sorbian News for the Upper Sorbs ) was the successor of the Jutnička and first appeared in 1842. The editor was initially the founder of modern Sorbian poetry, Handrij Zejler , later Jan Arnošt Smoler .

Under his leadership, the newspaper developed into the mouthpiece of the Sorbian national movement and to defend the civil and democratic rights of the Sorbian people . In 1852, in addition to editing, Smoler also took over the editor.

From 1854 the weekly political journal was renamed Serbske Nowiny . The Serbske Nowiny has been published as a daily newspaper since 1921.
