Typhoon H.

Typhoon H ("H" for Hexa ) is the name of a model airplane ( unmanned aerial vehicle ) made by the Chinese manufacturer Yuneec . Equipped with a camera as standard, the Typhoon H is a camera drone . The Typhoon H appeared on the market for the first time in April 2016.

description

The Typhoon H is a multicopter that has six propellers . As such it is to be assigned to the subspecies "Hexakopter". The range of the video transmission to the pilot (or his remote control) is up to 1600 m under optimal conditions. The factory-set maximum ascent height is 122 m. This height restriction can be changed using software and is a maximum of 1000 m. Regardless of the technical possibilities to change the maximum ascent height , the Typhoon H , like all drones, is subject to the legal requirement, which in Germany prescribes a maximum height of 100 meters.

The Typhoon H is operated with a lithium polymer battery , with which a flight time of about 22 minutes can be achieved. The charging time is about 2.5 hours. The associated remote control "ST 16" is also operated by a rechargeable battery. The remote control ST 16 has a 7 "screen on which the images from the copter camera are displayed in real time.

The landing gear of the copter can be folded up by remote control after take-off; this allows the camera attached under the copter a free all-round view with a 360-degree rotation.

The ready-to-fly weight (including battery) remains just under the two-kilogram limit at 1.9 kilograms. The maximum speed over the ground ( ground speed ) is about 70 km / h with deactivated GPS . With the GPS activated, the maximum speed above ground is around 45–50 km / h. In the so-called FollowMe mode, 70km / h are also possible.

Different colored position lights on the underside of the propeller arms serve the pilot for orientation about the orientation of the copter in the air.

  • Front LEDs = white (flashing means OBS is switched on)
  • Rear LEDs = red
  • LED left = blue
  • LED right = green

In addition, all position lights show when they flash that a battery warning has been issued (low battery level = landing)

Flight modes

  • Standard ( Angle ): All changes of direction are relative to the front of the copter
  • Intelligent ( Smart ): All changes of direction are relative to the location of the pilot, he also keeps a safe distance from the pilot when landing
  • Home: Kopter returns to the starting point and lands within a radius of about 8 meters
  • Team: In team mode, two people control the copter. While one person is responsible for the flight, another controls the camera functions. Either a second remote control is required for this, or the “Wizard” included in the “Pro Version”.
  • FollowMe / WatchMe: In ( Smart ) there is also the option to let the copter follow the remote control ( FollowMe ) and also to align the camera to the remote control ( WatchMe ). With the Typhoon H with installed RealSense module it is also possible, by activating the anti-collision system, that the copter follows the remote control and at the same time autonomously avoids obstacles and independently calculates a suitable route.

Flight programs

In addition to the standard flight mode, the software offers various preprogrammed flight maneuvers:

  • POI (Point of Interest): Kopter circles around a selected point with a radius of the desired length, with the camera always pointing towards the center (automatic rotation)
  • Orbit: Kopter circles around the location of the pilot
  • Journey: Kopter moves 30 m away from the pilot's location, pauses there for a moment and then returns
  • CCC: In the Cable-Curve-Cam-Modus the copter flies automatically one after the other to places previously defined by the pilot

Security mechanisms

  • Obstacle Avoid: In the switchable "Obstacle Avoid" mode (obstacle detection / avoidance) the flight speed of the copter is greatly reduced, while sonar sensors on its front monitor the flight environment forward. In this mode, the copter automatically stops in the air if it threatens to fly into an obstacle and remains at this point.
  • Battery warning: From 14.3 V, all position lights flash on the copter to indicate that the battery level is low and should be landed immediately. The ST16 also shows this with a pop-up and vibrates at the same time.
  • Emergency landing: As soon as the battery level falls below 13.9 V, the Typhoon H automatically begins an emergency landing, which is also displayed on the remote control. In this mode the copter can only be controlled to a limited extent (small corrections to the landing position).
  • Fail-Safe: If the copter loses radio contact with the pilot, it automatically returns to its starting point and lands.
  • In the “Smart” flight mode, the copter maintains a minimum distance of around 8 m from the pilot, even if the pilot tries to steer him closer to him.

Remote control "ST 16"

Camera shot of a Typhoon H from a height of about 100 meters

The remote control included in the scope of delivery has two or three antennas, depending on the version, one being responsible for video transmission and one (or the other two) for flight control. The remote control is based on a 7 "- Android - Tablet and offers various setting and control options, including the tilt and swivel the camera, the deployment and retraction of the landing gear, the height, direction and speed of the copter and the yaw Furthermore Des. the display shows flight-related data, for example the altitude of the copter, its distance to the pilot's location, the speed over the ground, a real-time image from the copter camera and the camera mode (photo or film mode). The remote control also offers two separate buttons to trigger the Photo camera and for starting and stopping videos. Furthermore, it offers setting options for regulating the reaction speed of the copter in flight (for beginners or advanced pilots). The tablet can also be used as a "normal" computer, various pre-installed programs are available for this , for example a browser. The connection to the Internet is via a built-in WiFi -Module manufactured.

camera

The delivery of the Typhoon H includes the factory-mounted camera "CGO3 +". This records single images with 12  MP , with an opening angle of 115 degrees and a maximum frame rate of 120  fps (in video mode). The video frequency of the image transmission to the pilot takes place at 5.8 GHz, in contrast to the transmission frequency of the copter control, which takes place on a 2.4 GHz band with 16 channels. The image resolution is reduced in video mode, in which it saves 4k with a maximum of 25 FPS UHD with a maximum of 30FPS film sequences on the inserted microSD card, which can have a capacity of up to 128 GB. Furthermore, the CGO-ET (residual light and thermal imaging camera) can be used on the Typhoon H. The CGO-ET can record RGB images in FullHD with 30FPS and has a thermal image sensor that can display an interpolated 160x120px thermal image on the remote control.

Executions

  • Typhoon H: Hexacopter, 12 MP camera and 4K video recordings with 12GB micro SD card, one battery, ST16 - ground station with sun visor, charging accessories
  • Typhoon H Pro: As before, but with a second flight battery, backpack and separate remote control "Wizard"
  • Typhoon H with RealSense: Like Typhoon H Pro, but with an installed RealSense module and shoulder strap for the ST16 ground station
