2009 Women's U-19 Asian Football Championship

The fifth edition of the Women's AFC U-19 Championship was held from August 1 to 12. August 2009 in the People's Republic of China instead. China hosted this championship for the third time after 2004 and 2007. The three best-placed teams in the tournament will take part in the 2010 U-20 Women's World Cup in Germany .

Most of the games were played in Wuhan's Hankou Sports-Culture Stadium . This stadium was used as a training ground for the 2007 women's soccer World Cup . The stadium can accommodate 5,000 spectators.

Qualifications and participants

The main qualification for the final round was played between October 28, 2008 and November 7, 2009. A total of 11 teams, divided into two groups each, fought for a place in the final round. The three best in the group qualified for the final tournament. Host China, defending champions North Korea and Japan qualified directly. For the first time Vietnam was able to qualify for a final round.

Group stage

The group draw took place on February 27, 2009 in Kuala Lumpur. The opening game was played by Japan and Australia.

The placement of the teams in the preliminary round groups results in the following order:

  1. Number of points (win: 3 points; draw: 1 point; defeat: 0 points),
  2. in the event of a tie, the direct comparison between the teams concerned
  3. in the event of a tie, the goal difference from all three games in a direct comparison;
  4. if the goal difference is the same, the number of goals scored in all three games;
  5. the lot.
