The Osaka subway ( Japanese 大阪 地下 鉄 , Ōsaka chikatetsu , dt. Osaka urban subway ) operates the subway network of the third largest Japanese city ​​of Osaka . Its first line was opened on May 20, 1933 from Umeda (provisional train station until 1935) to Shinsaibashi under the name Midosuji. The network currently has a length of 125.4 km with 121 stops.

Trains run between 5 a.m. and around midnight. There are no night trips. The frequency of journeys varies from 2-minute intervals during rush hour to 7-minute intervals at less popular times.

In 1990, the Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi line was the first Japanese subway to open, the trains of which are moved by linear motors .
