Fukuoka subway
The subway Fukuoka ( Japanese 福岡 市 営 地下 鉄 , Fukuoka-shiei chikatetsu , dt. Urban subway Fukuoka ) is the subway network of the southern Japanese city of Fukuoka .
After the decision to shut down the city's tram system by the end of the 1970s, a new public transport system was needed. In 1973 it was decided to build a subway and in 1975 construction began. Lines 1 and 2 (8.5 km) share part of the 30.5 km and 34 stops of the underground system. In addition, some trains on Line 1 continue as local trains on the JR Chikuhi Line (44 km) via the western terminus at Meinohama. The trains run exclusively underground, with the exception of the two final stops Meinohama and Kaizuka. The operating times are from 5:30 am to 11:30 pm, the frequency is between 4 and 9 minutes and 3–4 minutes during rush hour .

On July 26, 1981, the airport line was opened with a length of then 5.8 km. The last expansion took place in 1993 when the connection to Fukuoka Airport went into operation. There is a connection to line 2 (Hakozaki) at the Nakasu-Kawabata station. Today it is 13.1 km long and has 13 stops, the two end stops are Fukuokakuko (airport) and Meinohama.

The second line was opened on April 20, 1982 and in 1986 reached its current length of 4.7 km. At its western terminal station, Nakasu-Kawabata, there is a connection to the airport line, at the eastern terminal station, Kaizuka, there is a connection to the Miyajidake line of the private Nishitetsu train. In rush hour, the trains go over to the airport line and go to Meinohama.

On February 3, 2005, the Nanakuma line went into operation. It is 12 km long and has 16 stations . It runs underground for its entire length from Tenjin-minami station in a south-westerly direction and ends in Hashimoto . It has no direct connection to the other two subway lines, only to the main line of the private Nishitetsu railway. In Tenjin, the airport line is around 500 meters from the train station.

Technical specifications
The track width of the airport and Hakozaki lines is 1,067 mm and the supply voltage of 1500 volts ( direct voltage ) is provided by an overhead line . The trains consist of 6 wagons and have a maximum speed of 90 km / h. The platform length is 120 m, which can be reached via escalators and elevators . The gauge of the Nanakuma line is 1435 mm, it is driven by a linear motor , and the power is also supplied by an overhead line with 1500 volts direct current.
Further expansion
Future plans include building a link from Yakuin Station on the Nanakuma Line to Hakata Station on the Airport Line to connect to the Central Station (Hakata). There are also plans to connect the port district to the subway network via the Tenjin stop (the only station served by all three lines). The Hakozaki Line is to be extended to the northeast via the Miyajidake Line of the Nishitetsu.
