Class 211 submarine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The submarine class 211 was a planned and never built class of German submarines. It was designed by the German Navy in the mid-1980s to replace the class 206 boats . The navy wanted to improve its contribution to the NATO sea strategy and ensure the continued existence of the German submarine industry. At the beginning of 1986 a design by the North Sea Works called TR 1600 was shortlisted.

In the spring of 1987, the project was discontinued because it was not financially possible to continue it parallel to the development of the frigate class 123 . Already developed elements of the design went into the next submarine development project and therefore on the 212 A class above.
