U-Express

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

U-Express was the name of a Viennese free daily newspaper that existed from April 1, 2001 to March 31, 2004 .

The paper, based on the example of the Kronen Zeitung , was the result of an initiative by Hans Dichand . It was displayed, limited to three years, on weekday mornings in Vienna's subway stations and thus achieved widespread use. However, as a result of this initiative, Dichand got into an intensified conflict with his co-owners of the Kronen-Zeitung, the WAZ media group . Shortly after the U-Express was discontinued, the very similar free newspaper Today, which is also closely related to the Dichand family, was founded .
