Teodosij Spasow (also written Theodosii Spassov , Bulgarian Теодосий Спасов ; born March 4, 1961 in Isperich , Bulgaria ) is a Bulgarian jazz flutist and film composer; he plays the shepherd's flute kaval .

Live and act

Spassow, who learned to play the kaval as a child, attended the music school in Kotel and then the music academy in Plovdiv ; he was a student of the Bulgarian jazz musician Weselin Nikolow. In the early 1980s he became known as a member of Jazz Linia . Then he worked with Simeon Shterev, Ennio Morricone , Iwo Papasow , Yaldaz Ibrachimowa , the hr jazz ensemble and in 1994 with the women's choir of Radio Sofia. As a composer, he wrote music for films such as The Breakout of the Innocent and An Italian Story . He then performed with the Black Sea Creative Formation by Anatoli Wapirov with Vladimir Walkow, Harry Tavitian , Enver Ismailov and Stojan Jankulow . He also toured with Mino Cinelu , Antoni Dontschew , Rabih Abou-Khalil and Glen Moore , recorded with Trilok Gurtu , Matt Darriau , Dave Liebman , Miroslav Tadić , Dimitar Bodurov and with the Swiss group Fonixx and played regularly with Billy Cobham . Kristjan Järvi brought him in 2013 to his project Balkan Fever with Miroslav Tadić, Vlatko Stefanovski and the MDR Symphony Orchestra Leipzig .

Prizes and awards

Spassow received the Special Prize of Detroit Flute Festival in 1994 and the International Academy of Arts in Paris Award in 1996 . In Bulgaria he was named "Musician of the Year" in 1997 and 2002 and in 2001 he received the Apollo Toxophoros for his contributions to Bulgarian music. In 2006, he received a National Film Center Annual Award for best film music composer .
