Vladimir "Vlatko" Stefanovski (born January 24, 1957 in Prilep ) is a Macedonian musician . He is considered one of the most important jazz rock guitarists in the Balkans.

Career

Stefanovski was initially familiar with the rock music developments through his older brother; he later discovered jazz through Joni Mitchell . Stylistically, he was ultimately based on the guitarists Allan Holdsworth and Jan Akkerman .

As a musician, he initially belonged to the groups VIS Jegulje, Iris and Breg . As a member of the band Leb i Sol (bread and salt) he recorded 13 albums between 1978 and 1991; he also belonged to Lala Kovačev's band . Already at this time he created his album Zodiac (1990) together with Bodan Arsovski . This was followed by his solo album Cowboys and Indians , to which he invited Goran Bregović , Zlatko Oriđanski , Ana Kostovska , Mahmut Muzafer , Ilija Pejovski , Goce Dimitrovski and other prominent guest musicians. In 1993 he recorded his album Sarajevo , which included stage music for a piece by his brother Goran Stefanovski . His theme music Gypsy Song for the film Gypsy Magic by Stole Popov (1997) was a hit in the Balkans.

Then his work included appearances with his trio or with Miroslav Tadić ( Treta Majka , 2004) and the writing of theater and film music; He created the soundtracks for the films Reise zur Sonne (1999), Nebeska udica (2000) and Kad svane dan (2012). He brought Manu Katche to his album Kula od karti (2003) . Stefanovski formed the Kings of Strings with Tommy Emmanuel and Stochelo Rosenberg to go on tour in 2012. He can also be heard on albums by Bojan Zulfikarpašić ( Koreni ), Vanja Lazarova and Gibonni . Kristjan Järvi brought him in 2013 for his project Balkan Fever with Theodosii Spassov , Miroslav Tadić and the MDR Symphony Orchestra Leipzig .
