Raphaël Faÿs (born December 10, 1959 in Paris ) is a French guitarist of gypsy jazz .

Live and act

Faÿs, who comes from the Roma ethnic group , first received guitar lessons from his father Louis Faÿs and then continued his lessons at the music academy, where he studied classical guitar and composition. At the age of fifteen he already had his own band, in which his father was the rhythm guitarist . Just one year later he recorded his debut album, which was followed by other recordings in quick succession. He mainly works with his own ensembles. In addition, he has also appeared as a guest musician with Stéphane Grappelli and Babik Reinhardt and has worked with Yorgui Loeffler .

According to Martin Kunzler , he is “probably today's most important exponent of acoustic hot guitarism in the immediate successor of Django Reinhardt . In his style there are influences from classical music, flamenco , Latin American folklore and Valse Musette ”.
