Josef "Wawau" Adler (born January 25, 1967 in Karlsruhe ) is a German jazz guitarist who is primarily rooted in gypsy jazz .

Live and act

Adler, who comes from a family of German Sinti musicians, discovered the guitar at the age of nine. At the age of twelve, influenced by Biréli Lagrène , he began to occupy himself intensively with the guitar and had his first concerts at the age of 13. At the age of around twenty he broadened his musical horizons by also engaging in mainstream jazz , bebop and jazz rock .

In 1991 he recorded his first album and toured Western Europe several times over the next few years. In 2003 he gave a main concert at the Django Reinhardt Festival in Samois-sur-Seine . Since 2007 he has also been recognized in North America, where he initially played a leading role at the Django in June Festival in Northampton (Massachusetts) and also toured Canada in 2008. With his trio with rhythm guitarist Holzmanno Winterstein and accordionist Marcel Loeffler , with whom he wrote his album Back to the Roots. Vol. 2 (2006), he gave several concerts, including at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival . He also played with Diknu Schneeberger .
