UDAS

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

UDAS (abbreviation for U AO - D LR A steroid S uvey, where UAO stands for Uppsala Astronomical Observatory and DLR for German Aerospace Center ) is the name of an asteroid search program that the Uppsala Astronomical Observatory has been working with since 1999 operated with the DLR Institute of Planetary Research. With the help of a 1 m Schmidt telescope stationed 50 kilometers south of Uppsala in the Kvistaberg observatory , around 350 asteroids (including an object close to the earth ) have been discovered so far (as of early 2005) .

UDAS is (alongside ADAS ) a successor program to ODAS sky surveillance, which had to be discontinued in 1999 due to funding cuts.
