OCA-DLR Asteroid Survey

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ODAS (abbreviation for O CA- D LR A steroid S urvey, where OCA stands for Observatoire de la Côte d'Azur and DLR for German Aerospace Center ) is the name of an asteroid search program that ran from 1996 to 1999 operated by the Observatoire de la Côte d'Azur in cooperation with the DLR Institute of Planetary Research. With the help of a 90 cm Schmidt telescope stationed north of Nice , over 2,000 asteroids (including five near-Earth objects ) and a comet were discovered.

After the ODAS sky surveillance had to be discontinued due to funding cuts, the research with UDAS (from 1999) and ADAS (from 2001) was continued.
