Union of Central African States
The Union of Central African States ( French : Union des États d'Afrique centrale / UEAC ) was an economic and political union of the Central African states of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (1972 to 1997 ) agreed on April 2, 1968 in Fort Lamy (today: N'Djamena) (Chad) Zaire ), Chad and Central African Republic .
Chad and the Central African Republic had left the Central African Customs and Economic Union (French: Union Douanière et Economique de l'Afrique Centrale / UDEAC ) formed in 1966 to establish their own customs union. The Union's chairman was the Congolese President Mobutu Sese Seko , the headquarters were to be located in Bangui , Central Africa , and the secretariat in Fort Lamy , Chad.
The union was never realized and consisted largely only of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, since in December 1968 the Central African Republic then also left Chad. In 1981 the UEAC disappeared without having achieved any tangible success.
