The Department of Economic and Social United Nations Affairs ( UN DESA , United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs ) is part of the UN Secretariat , responsible for the areas of sustainable development (in particular the objectives for sustainable development ), population growth and development aid . Founded in 1997, it works with governments and stakeholders to help countries achieve their economic, social and environmental goals. The seat is in New York City .
