The UN Women National Committee Switzerland was founded in 1993 as an association. This is politically and denominationally neutral, recognized as charitable and tax-exempt. In 2008 there was a reorganization and the opening of an office. The Directorate for Development and Cooperation granted temporary start-up funding.

Tasks / order

The association aims to make the efforts and activities of UN Women known in Switzerland; to inform and sensitize the Swiss public about the situation of women in developing countries; Raise funds to support selected UN Women activities.

Projects

The committee supports projects that focus on combating violence against women . The focus is on the following areas: domestic violence and violence in intimate relationships, sexual violence , harmful traditional practices (e.g. female genital mutilation ), trafficking in women , HIV / AIDS and violence, crimes against women in violent conflicts, violence against women as a violation of Human rights. In addition, the association supports the seven principles for strengthening women in business and society ( Women's Empowerment Principles ).

management

Caterina Meier-Pfister has been managing director since 2012. She replaced Erika Linder, who headed UN Women Switzerland from 2008 to 2011. The office manages the day-to-day business. The committee is the highest organ of the association and ensures the preservation of the association's purpose. It consists of the meeting of committee members.
