USA badminton

The USA Badminton is the supreme national administrative organization in the sport of badminton in the United States . The association was founded on June 28, 1936 as the American Badminton Association and renamed the United States Badminton Association (USBA) in 1978 . The association has had its current name since 1996.

history

Badminton was first played in the United States in the 1870s. In 1878, the New York Badminton Club was the first badminton club in the world to be founded. The first academic badminton association in the USA was founded in Boston in 1926, followed by the establishment of the national association of nine regional members in 1936. A year later, the first US Open were held, which were also considered national championships. In 1938 the USBA became a member of the Badminton World Federation , then known as the International Badminton Federation .

In 1976 the USBA became a founding member of the continental umbrella organization Badminton Pan Am , then known as the Pan American Badminton Confederation .
