from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The USB Implementers Forum ( USB-IF ) is a non-profit organization that aims to promote and manage the Universal Serial Bus (USB). The main activities consist in promoting and marketing the USB, Wireless USB, USB On-The-Go and in managing the specifications and checking compliance with these in various areas.

It was founded in 1995 by a group of companies that were involved in the development of the USB.

The working groups in the USB-IF are:

  • Device Working Group
  • Compliance Committee
  • Marketing Committee
  • On-The-Go Working Group

Developers can register for free in the developer forums and thus gain access to documents of the USB-IF, access to a working group, however, requires registration as a member or as a member of a participating company. The developer forum includes both USB hardware and software development and is not intended for end users.

In 2014 a new USB connection called " USB-C " was announced. This type of connection transfers at up to 10 Gbit / s and charges devices with up to 100 watts.
