USS Cambridge (1860)
The USS Cambridge was built as a civilian steamship in Medford , Massachusetts from 1859 to 1860 .
In July 1861 it was bought by the US Navy. After being converted into a warship, the USS Cambridge began its service and helped blockade the Atlantic coast of the Confederates in the American Civil War . During her service until 1864 she was initially part of the so-called North Atlantic Blockading Squadron, later part of the South Atlantic Blockading Squadron.
After the fighting of the Civil War it was sold in June 1865. Later, until 1878, she sailed as a merchant ship under the name Minnetonka.
