USS Pintado

Two United States Navy submarines were previously named USS Pintado , after the pintado , a Caribbean species of mackerel :

• The first Pintado , (SS-387), was a Balao-class submarine , launched in 1944, demolished in 1967.
• The second Pintado , (SSN-672), was a Sturgeon-class submarine , launched in 1971, abandoned in 1998.
