Willy Timm
Willy Timm (born February 5, 1931 in Unna ; † March 30, 1999 ibid) was the city archivist and Unna's most important home historian .
life and work
Raised as the child of a miner's family in Unna, he remained lifelong connected to this city in the eastern Ruhr area - interrupted by around one and a half years as archive manager in Offenbach am Main, Hesse , and five years as director of the city archive in Hagen . Despite his enormous workload, which is hardly manageable today, and the associated honors and recognitions from various specialist circles, Willy Timm had never lost anything of his open-minded folklore, which was often provided with dry Westphalian humor. In the course of guided tours and lectures, he gained additional sympathy among the Unna population in his function as a local home nurse. Never a man of loud tones, he used to draw attention to himself through meticulous scientific research. The Unna city history, as an essential part of the history in the Westphalian Ruhr area and on Hellweg , would have largely remained unexplored and incomplete without the extensive and scientifically-based work of Willy Timm. No one before him had even come close to fully and comprehensively accepted this challenge. In recognition of his special merits in the field of Westphalian and Brandenburg local history research, he was initially appointed a correspondent by the Historical Commission for Westphalia in 1976 , and from 1991 a full member. Willy Timm was the first and only Unnaer as well as the only non-academic who received such a distinctive but also compulsory honor. Since 1977 he was also a member of the board of directors of the historical association for Dortmund and the county of Mark . He acted as a synodal archivist on a voluntary basis. In 1982 he was elected to the board of the Association for Westphalian Church History on the basis of the services he had acquired in this field.
In 1979 Willy Timm had published a detailed bibliography of all the works published up to then - a treasure trove of local history, which, with a total of 224 works, only partially reflected his hard work as an author. Significant works recognized in specialist circles include a. the 1980 published, nearly 500 pages comprehensive source publication The cadastre of contribual goods of the county of Mark from 1705 and its 1975 in the second edition with a total of 12,000 copies edited history of the city of Unna . For the closer Unna area, Timm founded the much-read Hellweg library in his own publishing house, which in summary represents an almost complete concentrate of the entire history of the region. His citizens and bridal wine book of the city of Unna 1623–1808 , published in 1995, was of major importance for the history of people in Unna . Timm's various illustrated books, Unna in old views and Hagen in old views , with excellent accompanying texts, achieved high sales figures. One of the preferred topics of the versatile local researcher was the description of the course of time and facts in the local church history .
Timm was married and had three children.
