USS Tarawa

USS Tarawa was the name of two US Navy ships named after the Tarawa Pacific Atoll , which was the site of a bloody conflict between the US Navy and Japan during World War II .

• The first Tarawa (CV-40) was an aircraft carrier entered service in 1946 .
• The second Tarawa (LHA-1) is a 1976 posed in service amphibious assault vessel of the Tarawa class .
