UTRA Absolute Radio Frequency Channel Number
The uarfcn shortly UARFCN is an integer from the transmission frequency of a UMTS - carrier is calculated. UTRA is the abbreviation for UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access.
The main difference to the ARFCN in GSM is that within the UTRAN, even within the individual bands, no fixed duplex spacing is prescribed and therefore different UARFCN are used for the uplink and downlink direction. The EARFCN ( E-UTRA Absolute Radio Frequency Channel Number ) is used in LTE networks .
Only the UARFCN is used within the UMTS cellular network. The conversion into a transmission or reception frequency only takes place in the end device or the base station ( NodeB ).
Calculation equations
It applies and
The UARFCN is then calculated as follows:
Since the step size of the channels in UMTS is 200 kHz, the factor 5 was chosen so that the UARFCN results in a whole number.
The uplink and downlink frequency are calculated from the UARFCN as follows:
The values in this table apply to the parameters in the individual bands:
tape | f OffsetUp | f UplinkLow | f UplinkHigh | f OffsetDown | f DownlinkLow | f DownlinkHigh | ARFCN uplink | ARFCN downlink |
