ARFCN

The ARFCN ( A m pletely R adio F requency C hannel N umber) is a concept of the GSM -Mobilfunks. The uplink and downlink frequencies of a channel pair can be calculated from the ARFCN . In UMTS or. LTE network, the ARFCN is being replaced by the UARFCN ( UTRA Absolute Radio Frequency Channel Number ) or EARFCN ( E-UTRA Absolute Radio Frequency Channel Number ).

Calculation equations

Using this general formula, the carrier frequencies for the uplink and downlink direction can be calculated for the GSM bands with fixed ARFCNs, depending on the ARFCN and the frequency band used:
