The bank promenade Dnipro or earlier "Sitscheslav" ( Ukrainian Січеславська Набережна ) is the longest bank promenade in Europe with 23 km and extends on the right bank of the Dnieper in the Ukrainian metropolis Dnipro .
history
Until the late 1950s the waterfront was hardly built on, but all Soviet general plans for Dnipropetrovsk included the expansion of a waterfront.
In connection with an absolutely necessary reconstruction of the city sewer system, the construction of the waterfront was also driven, whereby in 1957 the Ukrgiprokommunstroi ( Russian Укргипрокоммунстрой ) was offered to take over the construction work. First, however, old structures had to be removed and crooked streets straightened. The project quickly turned out to be unprofitable and difficult. A group of specialists of the Trusts Dneprospezstroi and Dneprograschdanprojekt ( Russian треста Днепроспецстроя и Днепрогражданпроекта ), engineers B. Milman, A. Lewin and the architect W. Suew, made the suggestion that all cables (water, gas, waste water and district heating) together along to relocate the waterfront.
An original idea was proposed to protect the promenade from groundwater - a dam made of the remains and waste of the city's metallurgical plants. The idea of using metallurgical waste for such a purpose was very innovative and effective. The slag was delivered on a specially constructed 10 km long railway line.
Buildings and sights
Due to the central, but quiet location, many cafes , restaurants and some passenger shipping companies have settled here , where you can book daily river boat trips.
In 2011, as part of the Share your love for Ukraine project , the Kiev telecommunications provider Kyivstar gave the city a “family bank ” ( Russian Семейная лавка ) - a 50-meter-long bench - each element of the bank was specially designed, for example a bank an umbrella made of metal, another bank has a little cupid , a map of Ukraine, etc. Furthermore, KyivStar provides every “user” of the bank with up to 1 GB of internet volume free of charge every day. Shortly after opening, the 1,400 kilogram bank was included in the “Ukrainian Book of Records”.
The three fountains in the central part of the promenade are particularly worth seeing:
One of them is the floating fountain "White Swan" ( Russian фонтан Белый лебедь - "Fontan Belij Lebed") which was completed in 2005. The middle beam reaches a height of up to 50 meters. The "feather-blow" effect is achieved by the movable lateral beams and in the evening the fountain is illuminated by a yellowish light.
Another is the “Sphere” fountain ( Russian Фонтан Сфера - Fontan Sfera ) which the locals also call “balls” or “globules” ( Russian шарик - Sharik) or “dandelions” ( Russian одуванчик - Oduwantschik). It is a spherical fountain consisting of individual pipes which was built in 2007 at the current location.
The last one is the "Kaskade" fountain ( Russian Фонтан "Каскад" - Fontan Kaskad ) which consists of four jets located close together and flows into several basins.
