The Ugra (Association for the promotion of scientific research in the graphic arts industry) is an association of the Swiss print and media industry. As such, she represents Switzerland in ISO committees .

The focus of activity is research and testing.

exam

The association is an accredited testing center in Switzerland.

  • Digital printers must be certified by Ugra before they are considered document-proof and can be used, for example, in civil registry offices.
  • In the event of damage between printing companies and their customers or suppliers, Ugra employees act as neutral experts, investigate the cases and find the causes of the errors that have occurred. This function is also used for courts.
  • The association checks banknote paper and banknotes for many national banks worldwide.

Kurt Schläpfer from Ugra checked, among other things, the Hitler diaries and was able to unmask them as a forgery based on the materials used.

Certification

The association certifies materials, companies, people, suppliers and schools according to ISO standards. This is a special certification according to PSO (Process Standard Offset Printing).

Control means

The association started the control agent business in 1975 with the development of the Ugra test wedge. Today Ugra offers control equipment for checking all work steps in the workflow of a printing company. One of the best-known control tools is the Ugra / Fogra media wedge , which was developed together with Fogra .

Normalization

Since all activities of the association have to do with standards, the organization itself is active in the ISO committees ISO TC 130 (printing industry) and ISO TC 6 (paper industry). The association has been a member of this commission since 1986 when ISO TC 130 was founded as a delegate from Switzerland.

research

The association researches the creation of new means of control, the improvement of the test possibilities in the test area, or as an order from a customer.
