The clock tower is a landmark in the Lebanese capital Beirut . It stands in the middle of Sāhat an-Nadschma , the Sternplatz, in the direct vicinity of the Lebanese National Assembly and the Cathedral of St. George , the seat of the Greek Orthodox Metropolitan .

history

Michel Aded, whose family emigrated to Brazil and made a fortune there, commissioned the architect Mardiros Altounian , who also designed the parliament building, to build the clock tower . The clock tower was built in the Art Deco style during the French mandate in 1934 in the center of Beirut.

Before the Lebanese civil war , the clock tower was dismantled and stored on the site of the railway operations in Sin el-Fil . After the end of the war, the tower and clock were rebuilt and renovated. In this context, dials with the inscription Rolex were attached.
