The Republican Platform ( Respublikanska Platforma ) is a liberal - conservative party in Ukraine that is currently involved in the Our Ukraine Alliance .

history

The history of the then Ukrainian Republican Party (URP) goes back to the time of the Soviet Union. Its forerunner is the Ukrainian Helsinki Union , a human rights activist group, founded in 1988 . In 1990 the URP was founded out of this. When it was founded on November 5, 1990, it was the first registered party in Ukraine. In 1999 the party joined the movement against the re-election of then President Kuchma . In 2001 the party was involved in founding what is now the Yulia Tymoshenko block . In 2002 it merged with the UVP-Sobor party, which gave it its additional name. In 2005 the party switched from the Yulia Tymoshenko bloc to the rival alliance Our Ukraine.

In 2011 the assembly merged with the Ukrainian Platform Party and renamed itself the Ukrainian Platform "Assembly" .

2015 renamed itself the Republican platform .

Political orientation

The party has a liberal-conservative basic orientation, still from its roots in the dissident milieu of the Soviet era. It supports efforts to join Ukraine in the EU and NATO .
