Ukrainian immortals
As Ukrainian Immortal one is chess called that on July 9, 1937 in the championship of the Ukrainian SSR was played between Yefim Kortschmar (1914-1978) and Jewsei Poljak (1908-1970). With several sacrifices , White takes advantage of his opponent's weakness in the basic row .

At the 9th DSB Congress in Leipzig in 1894, Tarrasch successfully applied the Fianchetto 11th b2 – b3 Rf8 – e8 12th Bc1 – b2 against Schlechter (6th… Be7 7. Re1 was inserted) after 10. Rf1 – e1 0–0.

In order to cover the point g7, Black has to weaken his back row, which White then takes advantage of.

The jumper clears the d- file with a gain in speed .
- 19.… a5xb4 20. Qd4xd6
The queen sacrifice cannot be accepted because 20.… Rxd6 21. Re8 + Rf8 22. Rxg7 + leads to mate.
- 20.… Qf5 – d7 21. Qd6 – d5
The lady still can not be taken at the same time threatened because of the bondage of the tower f7 now 22 Txg7 +.
- 21.… Kg8 – f8
On 21.… g6, 22. Tge3 wins
- 22.Rg3xg7 Qd7xd5
After 22.… Rxg7 the rook would be tied up by the h6 bishop, so that 23. Qxd7 would follow
- 23. Rg7-g8 +
After this double chess Black resigned because of the forced 23 ... Kxg8 followed by a two spacious Matt by 24 Re8 + Rf8 25. TXF8
