Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of Our Lady of Three Hands
The Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of Our Lady of Three Hands ( Estonian Tallinna Kolmekäelise Jumalaema kirik ) is a church of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the Estonian capital Tallinn (Reval).
location
It is located at Laboratoriumstrasse number 22 in the north-western part of the old town of Reval.
Architecture and history
A Ukrainian community had existed in Reval since the 17th century. Today's church is housed in a medieval merchant's house that was converted into a sacred building by the parish. The church is consecrated to the Three-Handed Mother of God , under whose protection all unjustly punished should stand. A hand made of clay was found during the renovation work. Today it is on a wall in the entrance area. People who consider themselves wrongly punished, but also unhappy lovers, can write down problems and requests and throw them in through a hatch on the street.
There is an iconostasis by Pyotr Gumenyuk in the church .
A monastery and a Ukrainian religious and cultural center are attached to the church. A small museum displays Ukrainian sacred arts and crafts.
