Ulrich Schreier enrolled at the University of Vienna in April 1450. In 1457 he worked on manuscripts donated to the Benedictine monastery in Admont in Styria. Schreier produced numerous works on behalf of the Archbishop of Salzburg, Bernhard von Rohr . Its library came to the University Library of Salzburg as part of the archbishop's court library . The works, which can be dated between 1481 and the end of his period of activity around 1490, were created in Vienna. Ulrich Schreier headed a workshop in the second half of the 15th century in which around 200 historical prints and manuscripts were decorated with book decorations or artistically designed covers.

A street in Salzburg has been named after him since 1962.
