Umber Iceland (translated from English mutatis mutandis umbra Island ) is a 2.5 km long and rocky island off the northwest coast of the West Antarctic Alexander Island . In Lazarev Bay , it is 10 km northwest of Dint Island .
Aerial photographs of the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947-1948) were used in 1960 by the British geographer Derek Searle from the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey for mapping. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the island that way in 1977 because it is located in the umbra of the neighboring Havre Mountains on said aerial photographs .
